I watched the entirety of The Decline of Western Civilization II: The Metal Years today and I think I am just a little bit dumber. But, it brought up some interesting ideas about truth and documentaries, and then I watched a wild interview with the director, Penelope Spheeris, from before the film was made, and that brought up some interesting ideas about women at work and how goddamn it are we gonna keep having the same conversations about how it would be nice to be paid the same as men for the same work and why do people talk about women directors but not male directors… Anyway, here it is (a bit long but with some gems):
My technical writing students are so excited to learn about technical writing, you guys. They can’t wait to learn how to communicate more effectively–which is frankly a big relief.
I have no idea if I’m any better at being a teacher than I was last year, and don’t really know how to write ‘I did the thing I said I would again today’ in an interesting way, so I’m excited to try a different goal in a week. But I don’t know, maybe this is about habit forming or something and I’ll see the returns on it later.
